Remove Television (or at least remove them from check count)
This is icheckMOVIES.com - individual episodes of television shows shouldn't count. They shouldn't even be on the site.
We will not be removing TV episodes from iCM, but we will be working on a better integration of TV shows so that it’s not obtrusive to the die hard movie checkers. Separate stats per mediatype is a possible solution to keep check counts correct.

why? 354 votes for such a stupid idea. I lose faith in humanity

Maybe this can be a alternative:

I think the best suggestion was to create a partner site, ichecktv.com, with individual episodes. That would be fantastic.
It that's not possible, then I agree that entire series should count, but not individual episodes, except in special cases where the episodes are more like films, such as Hitchcock or Masterpiece.

Checking television episodes DOES NOT affect the rankings, unless the episode you've checked is on an official iCheckMovies list (as some are).
People can check as many "unlisted" teevee episodes and (another thing I don't see the point of removing from the site) porno films as they want, without affecting your (or their) ranking in the slightest.
And, as has already been pointed out (by someone wiser than I), nobody is forcing YOU to check teevee "swill."
Total checks =/= high rank.

It would be a simple procedure too - remove episodes and add a list of blocked urls pulled down from IMDB. If someone tries to add it, it doesn't get added.

It does affect the rankings. Keep Masterpiece, Nature, things that are actual movies. Block individual episodes of the New Girl and House, swill like that.

There is a problem with this. There are some TV movies on Official Lists that are part of segment of Feature Film Anthology Series Such as Great Performances, American Masters, Playhouse, American Playhouse and MysteryTheatre 3000.

Okay, after reading beeswax's and some other comments, I have to agree that it has quite some complications if the episodes were to be removed.
Many productions for The Alfred Hitchcock Hour, which are basically independent films and not part of any series, would also disappear.
Single subject documentaries which are part of a documentary series, like those from BBC's "Nature" series, would also disappear. I have their episode about the African fig tree as one of my favorite documentaries. -

Don't agree! Beeswax has a really good point.

I can't stress this enough, and someone who is for this idea please answer it:
How does having TV episodes negatively affect your iCM experience?

There are pure information sites like IMDb.com that has everything ever produced. There are sites specifically for tracking TV shows and your 'progress'. IMHO, ICM lies in between and that's perfect.
I'm not hating on TV shows, I just don't think they fit into the concept of I-Check-Movies.Movies, yes. (that includes made for TV movies)
TV series as a single entry to indicate the entire show, acceptable.
TV episodes, no. -

I strongly disagree with this suggestion, for the obvious reasons lampadatriste and mjf314 have already sensibly stated.
Also, as Ca Ca pointed out, if you remove television episodes you will be removing stand-alone titles from series like American Playhouse. The series Ca Ca cited, Play for Today, contains "episodes" that include films directed by the likes of Mike Leigh and Alan Clarke.
TV-haters need to get over their prejudice. Or, failing that, try to avoid letting their puritanism interfere with something that doesn't affect them in the slightest.

I must concur with all the sensible voices saying TV should stay. Maybe individual episodes should go, if that can be managed (though as someone pointed out, that would ruin some lists).
Removing TV implies it somehow isn't as worthy as movies. That simply isn't true any more. When you have something that's a TV movie or miniseries in one country being theatrically released in others (as has happened many times in the last few years), the dividing line is gone.

What about anthology shows like Play for Today? No , removing individual episodes isn'y a good idea.

Of course made-for-tv movies should not be removed. Just the episodes of series, or series altogether.

I really DON'T like this idea. TV doesn't get in the way of anything else, and there are a few interesting TV pieces. Cinema happens to be on TV. Directors made extraordinary creations for TV. This recommendation makes no sense.

There are 17 TV episodes on official iCM lists, so removing the TV episodes would cause some problems.
Some people want to keep track of which TV episodes they've seen, so having them on iCM is useful. If you don't want to check them, then don't. No one is forcing you. It doesn't affect the rankings, so I don't see why anyone cares about this.
If lots of people want accurate movie-only check counts on profiles, then the best solution is to add movie-only check counts to the profiles. Removing the TV episodes is not a good solution.

Ultimately, why does it matter? Those who want to check episodes will do, but it doesn't affect anyone else negatively, does it?

I agree with keeping TV series largely on the basis that the line between TV series and TV movie can be a little blurry and I'd err on the side of caution. But individual episodes really ought to go--that's just an unfortunate artifact of integration with IMDB, right?

agreed, but TV films and mini-series (as a single entry, excluding episodes) should remain.
