Create a filmography system
Much like movie lists, start adopting filmographies (grouping these seperately from lists) and handing out a different type of award for them. A vane in different colours for example.

I want to downvote the idea of adopting filmographies. A film should not be an official check just because it was directed by a certain director, and I don't like the idea of having awards for filmographies.
However, I think it would be a good idea to have a system where the director is listed on each movie page, and for each director we have the same features that we currently have for lists (viewing progress, favoriting directors, searching by director, etc.). Then the filmographies wouldn't need to clutter up the personal lists anymore.

Why I object is that the films you receive checks for at the moment all achieved something. Whether it be critical acclaim, popular acclaim, box office success or cult status, each movie has had some form of success.
When you start adopting filmographies, movies that have achieved nothing other than being made by/with a certain person become official and the difference between an official check movie and other movies becomes nil.
If they would be tracked separately it will only clutter the site and makes it really confusing for new members. The simplicity of the site was what originally attracted me to the site. It was its selling point to me and I think that should remain. Adding different types of awards/check status and the like is opening up a can of worms, which I don't support.

I don't see why some people object to this idea. Sounds like a useful feature to me, especially if kept separate from critical lists.
And of course shorts should be included. What, they don't matter because they're not as long? Yeah, I'm sure everyone who ever directed or appeared in a short just tossed it together with no care.

Where is the downvote option? I really do not want filmography become in any way official.

This would open up a complete can of worms. How would one set the criteria?

I think improving upon the current system, user created lists, would be the best and easiest option. Grouping them in a separate category/tab.
A filmography (director) should include all films, including shorts. I don't know if lost films should be included, as they cannot be checked.
I don't think you can have the staff manage all those lists. There are simply too many. -

I dunno... Part of me really wants it to happen, but I just picture so many issues with it: Who to include, what to include (cameos? TV show appearances? Voice-overs?), how to implement it (it would make every movie on iCM an official check, for starters)... I think it's an interesting idea, but the problems with it seem overwhelming right now.

I'm not sure about awards, but separation is desperately needed. And I even know how they should title a blog post about it.
@No one guy: "It would just be to messy."
It can't be messier than now. :) There are 597 lists matching "Filmography" but only 348 tagged "Filmography". Every fourth personal list is filmography. -

It's a FILMography, not a list with everything someone has done.
Besides, I didn't intend these to be personal lists, but rather official ones, so the management can decide what to include and what not

You have to question what you would include on this list. Some Filmography would Include TV Episodes and Music Videos, do you include these aswell on those personal lists? Every user has a different way of choosing what they include on those Filmography, some like to include shorts while other don't and vice versa. It would just be to messy.
